Anar Mammadov, the son of Ziya Mammadov and the President of Azerbaijan Golf Federation, has been working on coaching young golf enthusiasts, to turn them into professional golfers. The country which hosts two 18 hole golf courses, developed the Azerbaijan golf Federation in 2012, and has been working ever since to build its future.

In 2014, when the country hosted Azerbaijan Golf Challenge Open, the first professional golf in Azerbaijan, it helped the country’s sport to gain a much-needed exposure. But Azerbaijan was still in its nascent stage when it came to nurturing national talent. To facilitate coaching of Azeri children, Anar Mammadov facilitated the Federation to hire a Scottish coach Spenser Henderson, who is currently the under-18 National Boys Coach for Scotland Golf. Other initiatives included the Flames Golf, which was designed in 2015 to make golf a part of Azerbaijan sports. The AGF President has also personally met these young golfers and their parents to educate them about the scope of golf.

“We don’t want to waste time on our future. We built a proper infrastructure; made the sport popular and now, we have been training talented Azeri children in our academy,” Anar Mammadov also quoted in an interview.
